Our Featured Store this week is none other than GoldCasters Fine Jewelry in Bloomington, Indiana! Learn a little more about this massive store here:

In October 1984, Brad Lawrence graduated from the GIA Jewelry Arts and Gemology program.  Upon returning to his hometown of Bloomington, Indiana, Brad borrowed $5,000 and used it to rent two showcases and a small store front; Gold Casters was born.

Beginning with Brad and two additional employees, the early days were a far cry from what Gold Casters has become today.  In the beginning, the skeleton crew manufactured custom rings, preformed appraisal work and offered a small selection of 14K gold rings and chains.  Then the business took off.

Having outgrown their original space, the team packed up shop and moved to a new, bigger building in downtown Bloomington.  In February 1986, Brad built today’s Gold Casters on the corner of 2nd and Washington St.  They brought in more showcases and invested in better equipment for the manufacturing shop.  Custom work and repairs soared and became the foundation of the business.

Through the years, Brad continued to expand the business and increase the staff, including Cindy Jackson and fellow GIA graduate Paul Brown.  Sarah Skolak and June Fisher became staff members in 2000 and 2001, respecively.  Jane Jackson brought 25 years experience and joined Mr. Brown in our custom design shop in 2000. In 2006, Georgena Kincaid was invited to join as Director of Operations.

Gold Casters has gone through multiple expansions. Adding a second floor, dramatically increasing showroom space, and securing an AGS accredited gem lab are to name a few.  It was always the goal of Brad Lawrence to create for Bloomington a world class diamond center.  With focus, resolve, and the undying support of a staff committed to superior customer service, that mission continues today and everyday at Gold Casters.

You have to see this amazing store to believe it. Wall to wall beautiful diamond jewelry including an extensive collection of your favorite bridal designer, Natalie K! Browse the gallery and see the rest of this amazing store.

Declare a wedding-free weekend

Declare a wedding-free weekend

For a full 48-hour period, pretend you’re the two people you were before you got engaged (and, in the meantime, remind yourselves of why you wanted to get married to each other in the first place). No wedding planning or fighting allowed! No talk of hors d’oeuvres, seating charts, or first dance songs. Hang out, laugh, have fun, and flirt with each other for a change.

Consider the environment when planning your wedding

Consider the environment when planning your wedding

“I know that it can be hard to see past the day itself, and you’re just doing whatever you can to craft a beautiful event, but there is often so much waste that goes into a wedding. It’s just one day in your life together, but the environmental toll can continue long after the day is done. Go simple, modern, vintage, or minimalist—any of these routes will help you reduce your impact on the environment and will likely save you money. So many people told us how blown away they were by our wedding, and yet, we spent less than $15k on the entire affair and managed to keep things very green.

Also, I highly encourage couples to ‘pay it forward’ and give away anything they created or bought for their wedding.  I plan to give away almost every single thing we made and thrifted for our wedding so that they can have a second (and hopefully, third, fourth, and fifth!) chance to make someone else’s dream day come true.” —Amber and Nate
